Virtual Indigenous Museum

The MASRC understands that empowering Indigenous people not only means supporting them through their journey in sport and recreation, but also celebrating the journey and the people involved. We recognize and honour, past and present, Indigenous (First Nation, Métis, Inuit) athletes, coaches, and volunteers throughout the year in various ways, in part through our virtual museum.

From elite to grassroots, everyone deserves to be recognized for the incredible contributions they bring to the Indigenous sport system and to providing recreation in communities across Manitoba.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, call to action 87 states:

"We call upon all levels of government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, sports halls of fame, and other relevant organizations, to provide public education that tells the national story of Aboriginal athletes in history."

As an organization we chose to be intentional and play an active role in telling Indigenous stories. As we recognize through the annual athlete, coach, and volunteer awards, the Athlete of and Community Champion of the Month programs, the annual athlete and coach scholarships, our new Ambassador program, and finally the upcoming TRC87 project, we honour their stories, celebrate Indigenous resilience, and empower one another.

We hope the virtual museum helps showcase the excellence in Indigenous sport in our Manitoba, National and International community.
